The top of the ladder Superoos turned a four goal three-quarter time deficit into a two goal win, making amends for a one goal loss to the Bulldogs in early May.

With games remaining against seventh-placed Maiden Gully YCW and ninth-placed Inglewood, the Superoos’ 47-45 win looks enough to seal top spot ahead of the forthcoming finals series.

They lead second-placed Newbridge by two wins and considerable percentage.

Mitiamo coach Jenny Clohesy said she was proud of the way her players had responded to a rare three-quarter time deficit.

“I said to the girls at three-quarter time, ‘the pressure is on, let’s see what we can do’ and they came through,” she said.

“Pyramid Hill are a great opposition …. We struggle a bit with height and they have a lot taller girls than we have across the court.

“But it was a good game and we were glad to get the win.

“We haven’t had pressure like that before, it was different even from the last game against them.

“It was a tight tussle all the way and there were plenty of ebbs and flows.”

Pyramid Hill had earlier led by three goals at quarter time, while scores were even at half time.

The Superoos were without their regular wing defence Abbey Hay, who had Bendigo Thunder commitments.

Clohesy praised the efforts of Sarah Ludeman and Kate Potter, who each played a half in A-grade after earlier in the day playing B-grade.

In an amazing day of netball at the Bulldogs’ home, the B-grade contest followed a similar pattern to the A-grade, with the Superoos turning a four goal three-quarter time deficit into a one goal win.

The accurate goal shooting of three-time league best and fairest winner Laura Hicks was a feature of the main contest.

While the loss dropped Pyramid Hill to fourth on the league ladder, Clohesy was confident the Superoos would again lock horns with the Bulldogs at some point this season.

The Bulldogs were unsettled for part of a frenetic final term, when Abbey Dingwall left the court for a few minutes after a heavy fall.

Despite the loss, Bulldogs coach Deb Forster said she was pleased with her players’ performance.

“There’s definitely not much between the two sides,” she said.

“We could have won it, but we didn’t.

“We know we can match them though.”

The Bulldogs were best served by Gabby Kennedy, who started the match at wing attack before switching to wing defence.

Others to rate mentions from Forster were Dingwall and Jess Holdstock.

“Abbey was playing a really great game until she went off and Jess in goals rebounded about 99 per cent and did well,” she said.

“Everyone played well, I don’t think anyone on either side played badly. Mitiamo are just a really good team.”

Meanwhile, Marong’s bid to score consecutive wins this season has come up three goals short against Maiden Gully YCW.

The Eagles’ 52-49 victory was only their fourth of the season.

Scores were tied halfway through the final quarter before Panthers goal attack Maegan Taylor went down hard in a contest.

She took several minutes to recover, allowing the Eagles to regain control of the game.

Goal defence Teagan Bickerdike was among the best for the Panthers after earning a call-up to A-grade following a big performance in B-grade the previous week against Inglewood.

Bears Lagoon-Serpentine took advantage of Calivil United’s five goal defeat to Bridgewater, to reclaim a spot in the five following a 65-35 win over Inglewood.

The Bears and Demons have winnable games against Maiden Gully YCW and Marong next week, before they meet on July 29 in a match likely to determine once and for all who finishes fifth.
