Bendigo police say they are doing everything they can to catch four wanted men whose erratic driving in stolen cars is putting people’s lives at risk.
The men are:
Jordan Smith
Nineteen-year-old Jordan Smith is wanted for failing to appear at court while on bail and is also facing theft of motor vehicle charges.
He was spotted by police on Thursday, July 13, about 7.25am in a car with stolen number plates.
Police attempted to arrest Mr Smith in Napolean Crescent, White Hills, but he drove off in the car.
OC spray was used by officers at the scene, who had to take evasive action when Mr Smith fled.
Police described his actions as alarming.
Ashley Backer
A warrant has been issued for the arrest of 32-year-old Ashley Backer for multiple offences including: theft of motor vehicle, theft of petrol, evading police, dangerous driving, contravening a community correction order, drug trafficking and failing to appear while on bail.
A large manhunt was sparked on Thursday, July 13, when Mr Backer was sighted in East Bendigo.
Police tried to arrest Mr Backer but he fled, causing officers to attempt to lock down the area around Lloyd and Murphy streets.
Despite a more than three-hour search involving the air wing and dog squad, Mr Backer was not able to be found.
Backer was believed to be wearing a blue hoodie, white shorts and black sunglasses at the time, and was seen with a short, blonde-haired female.
Aaron Burzacott
A warrant has been issued for the arrest of 34-year-old Aaron Burzacott for failing to appear at court while on bail and facing theft charges.
Jesse Ruff
A warrant has been issued for the 20-year-old’s arrest over a number thefts in the Bendigo area.
Police said on Thursday, arresting the the men was the highest priority for police.
“The people we’re looking for are very dangerous – they will run, steal motor vehicles and evade,” Detective Sergeant Steve Rainey said.
“Their driving is extremely dangerous and very much of a concern for all of us.”
