The fourth Bendigo on the Hop was launched at GPO on Thursday night with 20 brewers to feature at 10 venues on August 26.
“We've backed it off from 28 breweries last year and gone with more manageable format we had couple years ago,” Bendigo Beer president Trevor Birks said.
“While it was great having so many breweries here, people didn’t get to try everything.”
Brookes Bendigo, Tooborac Hotel & Brewery, Echuca’s Bandicoot Brewing, Holgate Brewing from Woodend, Shedshaker Castlemaine and Gisborne’s 7 Cent Brewery will lead the local charge of independent brewers.
“We are very happy to have good representation from central Victoria up against and alongside some of the best brewers in the country,” Mr Birks said.
Two Birds Brewing, Bridge Road Brewers, Pirate Life, Blackman’s Brewery and Coopers are among the big name craft beer brands to be joining the festival.
Other breweries heading to Bendigo on the Hop are 40 Acres Brewery, Fixation, Fury & Son Brewing, KAIJU! Beer, Mornington Peninsula Brewery, Old Wives Ales, Stockade Brewing Company, Wolf of the Willows Brewing Company and Valhalla Brewing.
“There is a bit of hype around Pirate Life because they are so good at what they do and Bridge Road and Two Birds are brewing something especially for the festival but I have no idea what it is,” Mr Birks said.
“Valhalla is run by an ex-Bendigo boy and Blackmans are headed up by an ex-Bendigo couple. There are a lot of local connections.”
Seven venues and three pop-up locations will host the brewers with The Rifle, Gallery Cafe, Rocks on Rosalind, Mr Beebes, The Exchange, Handle Bar and GPO opening their doors to the festival.
The Farmers Arms will set up in the Old Fire Station in View Street while Sydney Myer Place will be home to The Hub with Bendigo Beer and The Cambrian hosting breweries there.
