ONE of the integral members of Golden Square’s 1990s dynasty in the Bendigo District Cricket Association has taken the reins as club coach.

Robert Bakes has been appointed Golden Square’s new coach for the 2017-18 BDCA season.

Bakes played in Golden Square’s four flags in a row between 1996 and 1999 and has recently been a member of the BDCA board, which has included a stint as vice president.

Grant Connelly has taken on the role of assistant coach, while Scott Johnson will be the club’s training co-coordinator for what will be its centenary season.

Golden Square, which has been busy on the recruiting front, has also unveiled a new logo designed by long-time player Michael Cook.
