The two men had burgled properties in Benson Road, Toolern Vale earlier in the day before being spooked by a resident. They then drove off in a Ford Territory with a trailer, which was later spotted my Melton police in Diggers Rest.
The pair abandoned a Ford Territory with a trailer after crashing into another vehicle and jackknifing on Patterson Street before fleeing on foot.
One of the pair, a 29-year-old male, was quickly arrested in Main Street.
The other man was arrested at a residential property on nearby Shea Street, where he appeared aggressive and was being hosed down by police.
He is believed to have attempted to have stolen another vehicle before running into the property and stealing keys in an effort to steal the resident’s vehicle. Police made the arrest while he was in the vehicle.
