Bendigo Fire Brigade senior station officer Tim Fitzgerald said two units attended the facility on the Midland Highway shortly after 7pm and evacuated around 10 residents across the highway, to the warmth of a hairdressing salon.
The toaster is believed to have caught fire and caused minor smoke damage throughout the building.
Paramedics and police also attended the scene.
