AN initiative is encouraging people to come together to discuss the “big issues” affecting the community.

Make a Change Australia’s Karen Corr was hopeful the event would help the community find ways to tackle complex issues such as climate change, land degradation, obesity, wellbeing, food production and inclusion.
Each issue is often viewed individually.
However, Ms Corr said challenges and their solutions were more effectively addressed collaboratively.
Bendigo Health, the North Central Catchment Management Authority and Golden City Support Services are among the organisations involved in the initiative.
John Willis, of Golden City Support Services, said the organisations had common interests and objectives.
“But we’re looking at it from slightly different angles,” he said.
He said a sense of connection and inclusion was particularly pertinent for Golden City Support Services clients, who seek support for aged care services, mental health issues and disability support.

Rohan Hogan, of the North Central Catchment Management Authority, was hopeful the initiative would help connect the community to the environment.
“We live in such a beautiful spot here, surrounded by forest,” he said.
Bendigo Health’s Andy Sloane said the benefits of exercising, particularly outdoors, were well known.
She was hopeful the initiative would highlight the benefits of getting out and being active, of consuming fresh fruit and vegetables, and supporting the food system that exists in Bendigo.
Connecting: People. Land. Food. Life is part of the Greater Bendigo Curriculum for Change, a series of discussions and events aimed at inspiring positive change.
Ms Corr said more than 130 people attended the first event, Ramp up resilience, in April.
Connecting: People. Land. Food. Life runs from 6.45pm until 9.30pm on July 27 at La Trobe University at Sharon Street, Flora Hill.
