For the third round in a row the Hawks were on the right side of a one-goal game.
After surviving scares against Tatura and Epsom the previous two rounds, the Hawks were stretched to the limit again by Shepparton South in Shepparton on Saturday.
The Hawks were put under pressure early when the home team scored in the seventh minute.
It took until the 43rd minute for the Hawks to tie the scores when they found the back of the net via an own goal.
Jan Kerr and Nathan Hamblin scored inside the first 12 minutes of the second to give Eaglehawk a handy buffer.
However, Jesse Brun’s 11th goal of the season for Shepparton South gave the home side a sniff with 22 minutes remaining.
Despite being under pressure in the final 20 minutes, the Hawks showed why they’re championship favourites and held on for a 3-2 win.
The victory gave the Hawks a six-point advantage at the top of the table at the halfway mark of the season.
Golden City’s Godwill Basha made a mess of Moama-Echuca Border Raiders’ defence at Shadforth Park.
The striker scored 10 goals in the Rams’ massive 18-1 win. 13 of those 18 goals came in the second half.
Josh Hutchins netted a hat-trick for Golden City, Zac Gilmour added a brace and Harry Morley and Michael Moloney scored one goal each.
Shepparton United leapfrogged Shepparton South into second place on the back of two second half goals in its 2-0 road win over Spring Gully.
Fourth-placed Tatura was given a scare by the winless Colts United.
Josh Raeburn gave Colts the lead in the 28th minute before Tatura tied things up one minute later.
Adam Rando (two goals) and Tristan Zito scored after half-time to give Tatura some breathing space.
Colts’ Marc McGregor scored a consolation goal in the 87th minute.
Epsom scored a comfortable 5-0 win over Shepparton.
The Scorpions set the tone with two goals in the first 16 minutes and continued to create chances across the 90 minutes.
The 5-0 scoreline could have been 10-0, but the visitors squandered chances.
Teenage star Cooper Arkinstall scored a hat-trick, while Adam Dwyer and Harley Richardson added the other two goals.
Epsom is up to sixth place, one point behind Strathdale, which had the bye.
