The Bees defeated Whittlesea Ranges 2-0 on Saturday, giving them a 20 point advantage over Bendigo on the premiership table.
Melbourne Victory is the only other team Bendigo City can catch, currently on 22 points.
But even that would take a complete loss of form from the Victory, who have won five games this season and drawn four.
Bendigo City was on level terms with Sunshine George Cross for the opening 23 minutes before Souheil Azagane broke the deadlock.
City went into the break 1-nil down and despite some valiant defending were unable to restrict the Georgies, who added two second half goals.
Keeper Donte Thomas, Asa Kryst and Abraham Lokiru all received cautions during the match.
City hosts Dandenong Thunder next Saturday at 5pm at Epsom Huntly Recreation Reserve.
In youth under-20s action, Bendigo City fell 6-2 to Sunshine George Cross.
Luke Burns and Charlie McCormick were the scorers for City, who are still searching for their first win.
In junior games against Avondale FC, Bendigo lost the under-18s 6-nil, lost 3-nil in the under-16s, lost 4-1 in under-15s, and lost 2-1 in under-14s.
Harrison Adams was the lone goal scorer in under-15s, booting his third for the season, while Ruben White found the back of the net in the under-14s.
