Two houses under construction in Brudian Drive were targeted at the weekend, with offenders managing to break-in to one of the properties, stealing several household items including an oven, rangehood and hot water service.
Police are also investigating another break-in and theft from an unoccupied house under construction in Regent Street between Wednesday, June 21 and Thursday, June 22.
A bathtub, tapware, dishwasher, spotlights and a hot water service were stolen.
It comes as police issued a warning at the beginning of the week, urging people to secure building sites and trailers after a number of thefts across the city.
Thieves have made off with unsecured trailers from building sites and other residential areas in recent months, and more building materials such as timber and hot water services have been stolen.
Senior Constable Rob Fleming said if people didn’t secure their trailers or property, they would be more vulnerable to theft.
“People are fairly trusting but they need to be aware that people are stealing stuff from building sites,” he said.
“It’s very hard if houses aren’t at lock-up stage yet, but they just need to be really mindful there are criminals out there.”
Anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or submit a confidential crime report at www.crimestoppersvic.com.au
