Police monitored the mobile phone and movements of Ebony Crump, 29, between December 9 and 29 last year with suspicions she was trafficking large amounts of ice from Sunbury to Bendigo.

Crump pleaded guilty in the Bendigo Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday to 14 charges including drug trafficking, weapons offences and handling stolen goods.

Police found she was operating a network of couriers and buyers across the Bendigo suburbs, including her boyfriend, who would allegedly collect the ice from a dealer in Sunbury in exchange for cash and stolen items obtained in Bendigo.

Over the 20 days, 103 grams of ice was transported from Sunbury and sold in Bendigo for $300 per gram, the court was told.

Twelve trips were made to collect ice from the Sunbury dealer, who has since been jailed for his role in the operation.

On one occasion a stolen rifle was exchanged for drugs. Stolen power tools were also a regular commodity.

One Eaglehawk man bought ice from Crump six times for his personal use. She also negotiated the sale of 100 millilitres of GHB for $300.

Text messages read by police found Crump owed the Sunbury dealer $23,000 and he was becoming increasingly agitated during the 20 days.

Police raided her Hammer Street residence on December 29 where they found stolen goods, 3.2 grams of ice, stolen number plates, a taser, silencer, shotgun cartridges and three tick sheets.

The tick sheets contained 66 names with a total of $20,100 owing to Crump.

The stolen items included a quad bike stolen from White Hills, a trailer stolen from Kangaroo Flat and number plates stolen from La Trobe University in Flora Hill.

It was the third time Crump had been caught trafficking ice in Bendigo. She has received two community corrections orders, one of which she was serving during the latest offending.

Crump has served 173 days in custody, during which time she gave birth to a child.

Her defence counsel argued she should be released on another community corrections order because she would be committed to her child.

Prosecutor Leading Senior Constable Alan Walker said motherhood had not been a deterrent to her offending in the past, and called for a jail term.

“She was supplying other traffickers, you could describe her as the wholesaler,” he said.

“This is a heavy trafficking of drugs, not just someone who bought six or seven grams… this was beyond huge amounts.

“I don’t see how another community corrections order will assist Ms Crump in relation to this matter.”

The court heard Crump had a $200-a-day ice habit before her arrest.

Magistrate Michael King said it was not “occasional” or “small-time” dealing, but was a widespread operation.

“Methylamphetamine is a scourge in this community,” he said.

“You were given the chance on several occasions to address your behaviour. You treated your last order with such contempt that you committed these offences.”

Crump was jailed for 18 months with a non-parole period of 12 months. She has already served 173 days in custody.

She was also fined $1500 for failing an oral fluid test as a condition of her community corrections order.
