But Catholic College Bendigo’s campaign ended with a one-point loss in Wednesday’s other semi-final.
BSSC earned its spot in next Wednesday’s final with a 49-point victory over Hallam Senior College at the QEO.
BSSC kicked away from Hallam in the final quarter to win 11.11 (77) to 3.10 (28).
Having kicked an inaccurate 5.11 over the first three quarters – including 1.5 during the third term – BSSC straightened up in the final term with 6.0.
The victory keeps intact BSSC’s unbeaten record this year.
“The boys played really well today and it was a good team effort,” BSSC coach Rick Coburn said.
“They set up the field really well and were organised.
“We were a bit wayward with our kicking at goal at one stage, but other than that it was a very consistent performance.
“The boys will take a lot of confidence out of the way they played today and the good part about it was how even the contribution was right across the field.”
Braydan Torpey kicked four goals for BSSC, while ruckman Nathan McHugh won the side’s best-on-ground medal.
BSSC will take on Essendon Keilor College in next Wednesday’s final at Sandringham’s Trevor Barker Beach Oval from noon.
The winner of next week’s premier league final will go on to qualify for the semi-finals of the Herald-Sun Shield.
Essendon Keilor kicked the only goal of the final quarter of its semi-final against CCB to scrape over the line by one point, 5.5 (35) to 5.4 (34), at Highgate Reserve.
“They got their nose in front halfway through the last quarter,” CCB coach Lee Coghlan said.
“We had the footy in our front half for basically the last four minutes of the game, but unfortunately, we couldn’t muster a score.
“It’s disappointing to go down by one point after leading for most of the day.”
Shannon Murphy was CCB’s best player.
