BENDIGO Spirit star Nadeen Payne and her Aussie teammates have narrowly missed a quarter-finals berth at the FIBA 3x3 World Cup in France.

The Australians split their two matches on June 17, defeating China 21-2, but losing to the Ukraine 12-21.

Tuesday brought an 18-8 win over Japan and 16-14 loss to the Netherlands to leave the Aussies 2-2 in pool C.

Netherlands (4-0), which started the tournament as the third-seed, and Ukraine (3-1) advanced to the next stage.

The Australian team, which was seeded 20th, comprised Payne, Melbourne Boomers' Rebecca Cole, and Dandenong Rangers pair Carley Mijovic and Amelia Todhunter.

Payne has re-signed with the Spirit for a second WNBL season.
