UPDATE Monday 8.30am: The deer seen running through the streets of Bendigo on Sunday was euthanised.
The animal was reportedly injured.
SUNDAY: A startled, part-tranquilised deer seen running through the city’s streets on Sunday afternoon is currently in a backyard of a Flora Hill property.
The animal, first spotted in Golden Square, made its way to the rear of a property in Williamson Street, where it was reportedly shot with a dart by a wildlife emergency service official.
The deer escaped from the Williamson Street property and ran across the notoriously busy roundabout at the end of the street, causing motorists to slow down and swerve out of its path.
It then made its way to the backyard of a Churchill Avenue property, in Flora Hill, where it is currently contained.
Police, City of Greater Bendigo staff and a local wildlife emergency official are all at the property.
It is unclear where the deer, which appeared injured, came from.
