In 2000 she was part of the group who went to the Australian Field Day Conference in New Zealand to soak up the best of all things field days, and one of them happened to be the Ag Art Wear Competition.
Lorraine was so enthusiastic she came home and told the committee that they should seriously look at holding one. They said: “If you want to do it Lorraine, you have our blessing.”
The first year there were nine contestants. It has grown to 53 entrants recently, with the standards of the designs growing each year as well.
Today the Ag Art Wear competition challenges designers to create a wearable art garment from materials found on farms, in farming related industries or sourced from the land by taking these everyday materials and transforming them into unique garments. Designs are then brought to life at the Elmore Field Days where they are modelled on the catwalk.
The Ag Art Wear Competition is open to everyone. There are four sections: Avant Garde, Designer, 18 Years and Under, and Hats.
Entries close in the first week of September with all details on the Elmore Field Days website, where you can also find the entry form.
