The Bulldogs survived a tough encounter at Canterbury Park on Sunday to defeat a class Eaglehawk team 48-43.

The five goal win was the Bulldogs' first this season over a top five opponent and leaves them in third place ahead of a home game against Castlemaine.

The Hawks were unable to replicate their big win of the previous week against top-of-the-ladder Sandhurst, but do retain fifth spot on he ladder with a 3-3 record.

Meanwhile, Sandhurst has responded to a round five loss in the best possible way by defeating South Bendigo by 30 goals at the Queen Elizabeth Oval.

The Dragons established their ascendancy early in Saturday's clash, eventually running out winners 62-32.

The Dragons retain top position on the ladder with a 5-1 record, while South Bendigo (3-3) is in seventh place.

Golden Square is the only other team with a 5-1 record, boosted by a 34 goal win over Maryborough.

The Magpies had goal shooter Jordan Macilwain playing her 200th game, but it was the Bulldogs who ran out strong winners 73-39 at Princes Park.

Strathfieldsaye has continued to gain momentum after a 30 goal victory over Castlemaine.

The Storm won their second straight contest 67-37 over the Magpies.

Kyneton is still searching for its first win of the season after falling to Kangaroo Flat 62-36.
