The nine-year-old gave bookies plenty to smile about when he stormed home to win the Barwon Foods Benchmark 64 Handicap (1300m).
Rouen started $31, but won like a favourite.
“When I got him to the outside he picked them up really quickly,’’ winning jockey Harry Coffey said.
“I don’t think he remembered his age the way he put them away. He probably clocked off a little bit late, but he did enough and it was a good win.”
Trainer Paul Banks purchased the former Peter Moody-trained Rouen for just $2000 as a young horse and the tough gelding has gone on to win 10 races and a few sheckles less than $120,000 in prize money.
Six of Rouen’s 10 career wins have been at Geelong, with five of those six victories on the synthetic track.
