The joint sheriff’s office and Victoria Police road-block operation on the corner of Primrose Street and Sutton Road identified 16 fine evaders with 135 outstanding warrants valued at more than $43,000.
Three drivers paid up on the spot, finalising eight warrants worth more than $2000, while six others with 59 warrants worth over $18,000 were notified their drivers licence or vehicle registration would be suspended if they did not arrange to pay within seven days.
Victorian sheriff Brendan Facey said the operation should serve as a reminder fines can be enforced anywhere at any time.
“This operation was designed to find those people who are deliberately trying to avoid paying their fines, while minimising any inconvenience to other motorists,” he said.
“Paying your fines is not voluntary. If you do incur a fine, contact us to discuss your options and deal with it early before additional penalties apply.”
