A PLACE in the top five will be up for grabs when Calivil United hosts Bears Lagoon-Serpentine in LVFNL A-grade netball this weekend.
The Demons held onto their spot in the five with a convincing 72-33 win over Marong last week, but find themselves under pressure from a persistent Bears, who defeated Maiden Gully YCW 46-41.
It was the Bears' second consecutive win and arguably their biggest in the last three seasons, setting up a high-stakes clash against the Demons.
Bears Lagoon-Serpentine has Sarah Perry and young gun Caitlyn Hocking combining well in defence.
But they will be tested by a proud Demons team, which has shown it is capable of some outstanding netball.
With the top four looking remarkably settled nearing the halfway point of this season, respective coaches Tiegan Redwood (Calivil United) and Cara Bastian (Bears Lagoon-Serpentine) will not need to stress the importance of a win on their teams' respective finals chances.
Bastian, who had a previous stint in the LVFNL with YCW, said she could recall being involved in more than a few epic battles over the years against the Demons.
"I do remember a lot of the faces and names in that Calivil United, whether they are still in the line-up or not," she said.
"I certainly look forward to playing against them, particularly Tiegan Redwood.
"I think it should be a great match and good luck to Calivil, as much as I can, but may the best team win."
Meanwhile, Maiden Gully YCW is in desperate need of a win, but faces a tough task against a red-hot Pyramid Hill.
The Eagles (2-4), under coach Christie Griffiths, trail Calivil United and Bears Lagoon-Serpentine on the league ladder by one win and would fall a further game behind at least one of those teams with a loss here.
The Bulldogs defeated Inglewood 54-25 last week and continue to go from strength-to-strength, despite their fourth position.
A strengthened Newbridge took care of second-place Bridgewater last week and meets Marong, which is looking for its second win of the season.
In the remaining game, bottom of the ladder Inglewood hosts top side Mitiamo, which is returning to action after the bye.
Bridgewater has the bye.
