I would like to let all Bendigonians know of the great care I received.
Special thanks to all the nurses and staff on the 6th floor rehab. Especially to Chris the physio and his staff.
The nurses and doctors on 6C. Thank you all so much.

Lab needs support
Well it seems the chickens are coming home to roost, we have our local pollies grabbing photo opportunities when things are going well, but here we have a $700 million new hospital which is losing it's microbiology lab.
Where are those empathetic councillors and local politicians voicing their disgust at this loss to Bendigo?
Stand up and be counted or are they part of the problem?

Careful what you wish for
There has also been a noisy few people in Bairnsdale in East Gippsland complaining about an amazing colony of Flying Foxes along the Mitchell Rivers park and walkway.
It is a fantastic opportunity for visitors to see and experience these native mammals only a block or two from the main street.
A bat expert from Queensland was invited down to speak on the issue and it then bacame clear that if simply frightened and harrassed to move on, they could end up in the hospital grounds or at the school or somewhere far more problematic.
This would then cost the council millions more to deal with.
It's a tricky problem but the main culprit has been our clearing of their natural habitat.

Hopes for restoration of signal box
Sad, sad, sad. The now historic Signal Box at Bendigo Railway Station is in a dreadful, dilapidated state. Irrespective of its Heritage classification, it is surely worthy of maintaining for posterity.
It is now time for City of Greater Bendigo, V/Line and governments to confer and contribute towards its restoration.
One possible solution would be to arrange a mix of experienced tradesmen and a few court-directed community service young people to work on this vital project – ie to preserve an historic treasure.

Staffing an issue
My wife and I had a similar experience to Maree Lever (Letters, May 25) at Bendigo hospital recently.
My wife was very unwell and was transported to the hospital, where she was put in a wheelchair and waited for several hours. In the finish she became so unwell that I took her home.
Paradoxically, she was too unwell to be at the hospital. The staff were very apologetic, but the patient numbers were beyond their ability to cope.
The new hospital is absolutely sensational, but can only function to the level of staffing.
I took my wife back to our family doctor the following morning, she received I.V. fluids and antibiotics, she quickly started to recover.
The new hospital makes a bold promise.
I hope it can start keeping that promise, there have been a few disappointments so far.
