A contingent of five Bendigo East members competed at the Australian Swimming Championships and Australian Age Swimming Championships, which were both held in Brisbane.
Among the team that competed at the open Australian titles were the brother and sister duo of Cameron and Kate Jordan.
“This championship was an open event meaning that the Bendigo East team swam against the best swimmers in Australia, including current Olympians,” club president Phil Downing said.
“It was a fantastic effort for Cameron, who is only 14, to qualify in the open events.”
Cameron also swam at the Age Championships, along with Katerina Pizzo, Layla Day and James Kealy.
The Australian Age Swimming Championships featured the best junior swimmers in the country.

Australian Swimming Championships:
Kate Jordan – 50m breastroke, 31st.
Cameron Jordan – 100m breaststroke, 26th. 200m breastroke, 30th.
Australian Age Swimming Championships:
Katerina Pizzo (11-14 years women multi-class) – 50m freestyle, 11th. 100m butterfly, 6th. 100m backstroke, 2nd. 50m breaststroke, 3rd. 200m IM, 6th. 100m freestyle, 10th. 50m butterfly, 10th. 50m backstroke, 5th. 100m breaststroke, 5th.
Cameron Jordan (15 years men) – 100m breaststroke, 4th. 200m breaststroke, 5th.
Layla Day (12-13 years women) – 100m butterfly, 33rd. 200m backstroke, 12th. 50m freestyle, 12th. 100m backstroke, 12th.
James Kealy (12-13 years men) – 100m breaststroke, 48th.
“This is am exciting time for the Bendigo East Swimming Club with such a large number of swimmers attending, some for the very first time,” Downing said.
“The team was well prepared due to the hard work and commitment by the swimmers in the lead-up to the events under the guidance of coaches Chris Geyer and Anne Sherman.
“The club will now focus its efforts on the winter short course season.”
