Bendigo Police will run a two-day operation to tackle public order issues in the Hargreaves Mall and at the railway station from today.
Bendigo local area commander Shane Brundell said the operation would focus on the transport hub in the mall and aimed to reduce crime in the area.
“We know that public order issues such as disruptive and antisocial behaviour are a concern for some residents and traders,” he said.
“These types of incidents can be frustrating and concerning to our community. A strong partnership approach between police, the local council, traders and the community will endeavour to effectively tackle both the causes of these social issues, and any further public order incidents.”
Transit police members will be in Bendigo on Wednesday and Thursday to assist local police.
The crackdown comes a day after the state government announced new powers for protective services officers around the state.
Any member of the community who has any concerns about safety or crime-related issues can contact the Bendigo Police Station on 5448 1300 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
Anyone requiring emergency assistance is urged to call triple zero.
