Geelong held on to its No.1 ranking with a 16.9 (105) to 11.17 (83) victory over Mornington Peninsula Nepean at the MCG in Saturday’s main event match of the 2017 AFL Victoria Community Championships.
Eastern earned the right to challenge Geelong for the No.1 spot next year after it held on to win a 3 v 4 thriller against Essendon District by two points, 18.10 (118) to 17.14 (116).
Saturday’s results across the state generally played out according to the rankings.
Of the 15 games played, 12 were won by the higher-ranked teams.
