UPDATE 3.30pm: Police have confirmed a woman has died after crashing into trees on Bendigo-Maryborough Road in Havelock, near Maryborough.
The woman was the sole occupant of the vehicle.
Police believe the driver lost control at a bend, veered onto the opposite side of the road and hit trees shortly after 2pm.
The woman is yet to be formally identified.
Senior Sergeant Ian Brooks said the car was traveling towards Maryborough when it left the road.
“It appears from our early investigations that the vehicle was travelling towards Maryborough, and has veered off the right-hand side of the road and impacted a tree,” he said.
“Unfortunately, the sole occupant, a female, is deceased at the scene.”
The road has been closed off from Maryborough-Dunolly Road to Stevens Road.
Major collision investigators are enroute from Melbourne, and police are gathering statements from witnesses.
