The latest theft of a weeping birch on Friday night brings the total to at least six over three weeks.
A resident had only just planted their new tree yesterday and had gone to check on it last night. However the plant was nowhere to be seen.
That plant cost close to $100, according to a Kyneton police spokeswoman.
Other thefts over recent weeks included crepe myrtles and box hedges.
“All included they are heading towards $600 to $1000,” the spokeswoman said.
”If there is any other unreported thefts that have taken place in the last three weeks we would love to hear from people.”
Anyone with information has been urged to contact the Kyneton police station on 5421 2900.
