For the 29-year-old, being a part of the Braves through a largely successful era, culminating in last season's national championship win, has been a hard-earned privilege.
The bulk of those games have come in a bench role, but you won't hear Adkins complaining.
The forward-guard, who has stepped into a starting role early this season in the absence of co-captain Taylor Bell and with fellow veteran Chris Hogan being eased back into the line-up after injury, said there was plenty of pride in being a Brave.
"Basketball is something I have played since I was a little kid, so there's a love for the game," he said.
"Coming out with the Braves it's all about the history of the team and pride in the team's past and the guys who have ben here before us and what they've done for the club.
Adkins can't recall his first game for the Braves, only that Wayne Larkins was the coach and he was likely highly nervous slotting in alongside the likes of Chris Novak and Warren Randall.
"Even just sitting on the edge of the bench with those guys was massive at the time," he said.
"To be completely honest that's probably the only memory of that game."
His introduction to the Braves came via the club's development squad after moving to Bendigo from Melbourne to study at La Trobe University.
Adkins' trademark selflessness and dedication to team will be required in spades this weekend as the Braves aim to become the first team this season to defeat both the North West Tasmania Thunder and Hobart Charges in their home stadiums.
"It's one of the toughest weekends in the season every single year, doubly hard this year as we play Saturday night and have to drive down to Hobart and play in the middle of Sunday," he said.
"It's usually Friday night-Saturday night.
"We’ve been having some good training sessions and we're quite confident we can come out of this weekend 2-0 and that will give us some great momentum."
On his elevation to the starting line-up, Adkins said he was relishing being relied upon for something more than just his defence.
