Principal Francis Trezise said the upgrades would include classrooms that would give greater flexibility for teaching and learning to meet today’s education needs.
Outdoor play areas will also be transformed to make them more engaging and inclusive, he said.
The school received planning money in last year’s budget, and Mr Trezise said this latest funding gave the school the certainty to move forward with its plans.
“It’s fantastic for our school community,” he said.
Mr Trezise said the school had been looking to upgrade for several years and was always mindful of how it could improve the learning environment.
Bendigo East MP Jacinta Allan said the school would now be able to move forward “very quickly” to the tender stage of the project.
Ms Allan said education was a top priority of the Victorian government and funding to this sector would not be cut.
“We just know that education is so important; giving young children the best start in life is so critically important,” she said.
EARLIER: SPRING Gully Primary School is set to receive $5.2 million in the 2017-18 state budget.
The money will fund upgrades to learning areas and administration facilities.
It will also go towards outdoor areas.
More to come.
