Postboxes on the Calder Alternative Freeway at Lockwood South were vandalised between 9.30pm on April 19, and 7.30am the next morning.
While most mail appeared untouched, Acting Senior Sergeant Jason McDermott said it was possible some might have been taken.
Vandals might have been looking for credit cards, he said.
Nursing a broken window

The incident took place on Friday night night.
The offender smashed a third-storey window to enter the apartment at Aitken Road, North Bendigo and also stole the occupant’s handbag.
Nobody was home at the time of the break-in.
