“There’s a real positive vibe around the club at the moment on the back of our most successful Good Friday game ever and the fact we have our first home game under lights this week,’’ Kyneton coach Luke Beattie said.
“It’s a special opportunity for us and I’m expecting a good turn out from the community to support us.”
While the night game is an exciting event for Kyneton, Beattie doesn’t want playing under lights to become a distraction for his side.
“We’ve won our first two games, but there’s a lot of upside to the group because we haven’t played four quarters of footy to the level we expect,’’ Beattie said.
“We’ve had a turnover of seven senior players from last year, so it takes time to get some stability back into the group. As the season goes on we’re going to get better.”
The Tigers welcome back key defender Harrison Huntley, while Castlemaine regains veteran midfielder Wayne Schultz.
Beattie said it would be foolish to read too much into Castlemaine’s 199-point loss to Sandhurst last week.
“Castlemaine is not going to be the last team to suffer a big defeat to a team of the quality that Sandhurst has,’’ Beattie said.
“From our point of view we don’t care too much about what form Castlemaine is in. Our focus is on making sure our 22 players continue to progress as a team. This is another opportunity for us to further improve our football.”
