Thompson lent the kit to a local band for a gig but it was taken from the band room after the show between 10.30pm and 11.30pm.
The Pearl kit included a 20-inch Kick drum, 12-inch rack tom, 14-inch floor tom and 14-inch wooden snare. Thompson said he left the kit at the venue longer than he anticipated.
“They were piled up out in the band room and it is presumed made their way out the back door from there,” he said.
“It’s my fault that I left the kit there a few days longer than intended but it is no one’s fault except the thief's that it was taken.
“I’m just hoping it hasn’t made its way to a pawn shop in Melbourne.”
Thompson said the kit was precious to him.
“I have had it for 15 years and never sold it because it’s a beautiful little kit that means a lot to me,” he said.
“For a long time it was one of two kits that I had and I played it every week.
“It has been played at every Blues and Roots festival as well as events in between and borrowed by bands.
“I have always been open with lending the gear because I have certainly had times when I needed to borrow stuff and think it’s a good way to be.
“It’s worse when it is the only instrument you have and fortunately, I am not in that position.”
Mr Thompson has reported the theft to police, who are investigating. He has also put a call out on Facebook to anyone who has any information.
“Police are keen to see the CCTV footage the Vine has, which may or may not show what we need to see,” Thompson said.
“The police will investigate as best they can and I am really grateful to everyone who shared it on Facebook.”
