The reigning premiers trailed Eaglehawk by five goals at three quarter time of their round two clash at Canterbury Park.
But with young shooting star Ruby Barkmeyer in impeccable form and captain Chelsea Sartori dominant through the midcourt, the Roos produced a stunning 14 goals to six final term to overtake the Hawks on the way to 49-46 victory.
Two-time Roos premiership coach Janelle Hobbs praised her players for showing great resilience against a quality opponent.
"We knew Eaglehawk would be tough, but the girls really responded to last week's loss," she said.
"They trained hard all week and I was quietly confident as a result.
"A few of the new combinations look they are really coming together."
The Roos went into the game without their recruit Ingrid Hopkins, who will miss at least six weeks with a broken foot sustained in last week's loss to Golden Square.
Bridget Chambers won promotion from A-reserve and did not let her coach down after coming on after half time.
The Roos 2013 A-grade best and fairest combined well in defence with youngster Ava Lowndes and had eight intercepts in the final term.
Hobbs described Barkmeyer's game as "brilliant".
"She shot 12 (goals) in the last quarter and was shooting them from everywhere - big long bombs," she said.
The game was highlighted by several entertaining match-ups, with former Roos defender Zoe Davies going head-to-head with goal attack Jamie-Lee Clohesy and Hawks wing attack Ashley Ryan and Milly Wicks staging another good duel.
Goal attack Abbey Ryan was one of the Hawks' best.
The road ahead does not get any easier for Kangaroo Flat, with a round three clasg against undefeated Gisborne.
The Hawks will look to bounce back against Strathfieldsaye.
Meanwhile, Golden Square continued its strong start to the season with a convincing 64-35 win over Strathfieldsaye.
A week after her sister Kelly made her Bulldogs' debut, Andrea Wilson stepped into the line-up at wing attack and centre and was equally impressive.
Lucy Morcom was best-on-court in defence for the unbeaten Bulldogs.
In other games, Sandhurst advanced to 2-0 with an emphatic 97-16 victory over Castlemaine at the QEO, Gisborne was too strong for South Bendigo to win 55-25, and Maryborough scored a 53-23 win at Kyneton.
