Dogs, Bloods eye first victory

Gisborne and South Bendigo will chase their first win of the season when they clash at Gardiner Reserve on Saturday.

Both teams fought bravely in round one, but ultimately fell short of what would have been upset wins.

Gisborne struggled with its efficiency forward of centre in 2016, but last week’s effort to kick 15 goals against Kyneton shows the Dogs have the firepower to trouble most teams in 2017.

South Bendigo more than matched Eaglehawk around the ground last week, but the Bloods lack of marking options inside forward 50 proved to be decisive in the 13-point result. The Bloods were goalless for two terms, but still stretched the highly-rated Borough.

The corresponding game between Gisborne and South Bendigo last year resulted in a three-point win for the Dogs. Saturday’s game could be just as tight.
