THE Bendigo State Emergency Service has warned people to avoid any floodwaters when driving to work.
More than 32mm of rain fell between midnight and 8am.
Media and public relations officer Bec Maskell said the service had experienced a quiet night.
But she said it had started to receive calls from about 7am for building issues and fallen trees in the Bendigo area.
“People wake up to what’s happened overnight,’’ she said.
Mrs Maskell said people should take extra precautions to be safe on the roads when driving to work.
She encouraged to leave earlier and drive to the conditions.
“Never drive through floodwaters,’’ said.
Mrs Maskell said if anyone discovered water in their home or building damage, they should turn off the power and try to isolate the area.
She said people should be prepared ahead of heavy downpours.
“If there’s a bit of water around the property, check the drains, particularly downpipes,’’ she said.
“Clear out drainpipes so the water drains away.’’
Mrs Maskell said people could call the service for help on 132 500.
