Heavy rain is continuing to fall across central Victoria.
Bendigo has had 31mm of rain since 9am yesterday, Strathfieldsaye 19mm, Redesdale 17mm, Charlton 21mm, Swan Hill 50mm and Rochester 11mm.
The severe weather warning for heavy rainfall, which may lead to flash-flooding, is still in place for people in the Mallee, northern country and north central forecast districts, of which Bendigo is included.
The severe weather warning for the Wimmera has been cancelled.
Bendigo police Sergeant Robert Walsh urged motorists to take care on the wet and slippery roads.
“Take extra precautions and leave distance between yourself and other vehicles,” he said.
Marong SES media liaison Robin Neller said motorists should be mindful the wet weather might cause branches and trees to fall on roads.
“Never drive, play or walk through flood water,” she said.
Bendigo SES media and public relations officer Bec Maskell encouraged people to drive to the road conditions.
The Bureau of Meteorology is advising further rainfall totals of 15 to 30mm are forecast for the remainder of today with isolated higher falls of 40 to 60mm possible, especially about the northern slopes of the Divide.
The State Emergency Service advises that people should:
- Not walk, ride or drive through flood water;
- Keep clear of creeks and storm drains;
- Be aware that in fire affected areas, rainfall run-off into waterways may contain debris such as ash, soil, trees and rocks; and
- Be alert that in areas recently affected by fires, heavy rainfall increases the potential for landslides and debris across roads;
