EXPECT to see members of the Bendigo SES rattling their tins in the heart of the city on Saturday.
From 8am until about 3pm, volunteers will be stationed in Bendigo’s Charing Cross precinct, seeking donations for much-needed equipment.
Media and public relations officer Bec Maskell said a new double ended hydraulic ram was high on the unit’s wish list.
The versatile implement will assist members attending road rescues.
Bendigo SES is also seeking to replace its ageing Rescue 2 vehicle.
Rescue 1, the unit’s primary response vehicle, is the only one funded by the state.
Mrs Maskell said the Bendigo community had always been generous in its support of the SES.
“Without the ongoing support of the community, we can’t do what it is that we do,” she said.
She was hopeful some of the unit’s 14 new recruits would be involved in the tin rattle.
