The Bureau of Meteorology issued a statement at 3.50pm on Thursday, warning of heavy rain that could lead to flash flooding.
Rain and isolated thunderstorms will develop late Thursday night and early Friday morning over the Mallee, Wimmera and south-west districts and extend into the northern country and north-central districts during Friday morning.
Heavy rain is possible, particularly with thunderstorms and slow-moving areas of rain, and could lead to flash flooding.
Bendigo, Echuca, Marborough, Castlemaine, Seymour and Mildura could be affected.
The State Emergency Service advises people should:
- Not walk, ride or drive through flood water;
- Keep clear of creeks and storm drains;
- Be aware that in fire affected areas, rainfall run-off into waterways may contain debris such as ash, soil, trees and rocks; and
- Be alert that in areas recently affected by fires, heavy rainfall increases the potential for landslides and debris across roads.
The next severe weather warning will be issued by 11pm on Thursday.
