IT wouldn’t be Good Friday without the Good Friday Appeal telethon.
This year, Bendigo teen Haylee Lester will grace the small screen.
Having been cared for by the Royal Children’s Hospital all her life, the 17-year-old wanted to give back.
So she arranged a family fun day fundraiser at the Marong Family Hotel. The event on April 2 raised $3810 for the Good Friday Appeal.
Haylee said she was contacted by the telethon organisers shortly afterwards.
She will present a cheque for the funds raised sometime between 10.45am and 11am tomorrow, during the broadcast.
Haylee said she was excited and nervous about the television appearance.
But, more than that, she was thankful for the community’s support.
About 60 people came to the hotel especially for the fundraiser, Haylee estimated.
But she said there were many more, who were already at the hotel, who got on board.
The Good Friday Appeal last year raised a record $17,445,624.38, bringing the fundraising total since the event started in 1931 to more than $310 million.
The telethon starts at 9am on Channel 7 on April 14 and airs until midnight.
