A FAMILY has raised more than $3700 for the Royal Children’s Hospital through a fundraising lamb sale.

For four years now, Billy and Katrina Ogden, from Wanalta, have sold lambs in the lead-up to Good Friday to raise money for the Royal Children’s Hospital in Melbourne.

Their middle son Heath, now a healthy four-year-old, spent a week in the hospital as an infant after falling seriously ill with pneumonia.

Monday’s sale of 10 lambs at the Bendigo Livestock Exchange generated $3710 for the hospital.

Elders Bendigo livestock manager Nigel Starick said buyers paid well above market price because they knew it was for a good cause, although he added the lambs were “outstanding” regardless.

Mr Starick said generally the best lambs at Monday’s sale went for just under $230, but one of the Ogdens’ lambs sold for $700 alone.

Mrs Ogden thanked the meat buyers for purchasing the lambs at good prices.

A fundraising shearing day will also be held in August with the support of farmer Billy Barlow and others in the community.
