The Rochester Sports Museum is being developed by the Rochester Lions Club as part of Lions International turning 100.
The Rochester Sports Museum will be located in the Shire of Campaspe Hub where the current Opperman Sports Museum is located.
“John’s collection is one of the best going around,” project manager Sam Watkins said.
“John was an innovator in the sports marketing scene while at Puma and this is very special that we will be able to publicly display his collection here in Rochester.”
Instrumental in setting up the organising committee for the museum has been Lions member Bob Knight.
“The committee established is a great group of energetic people who want to make a difference for Rochester,” Knight said.
The museum will be launched on Friday, May 5, with a Sportsman’s Night dubbed “Forbesy’s Last Big Hurrah”, with guests to include Phil Smyth (basketball), Sharelle McMahon (netball), Scott McGrory (cycling), Darren Berry (cricket), Sue Stanley (aerobics) and Russell Mark (shooting).
The launch night will be held at the CVCC in Rochester. Tickets cost $100 per person and can be purchased online at trybooking.com/forbsey or by contacting Bruce Major on 0411 986 876 or John Boyd on 0429 984 997. Bookings are essential.
It’s hoped the Rochester Sports Museum will be open early next year.
