The group has organised a fundraising night for this Friday with auctions, raffles and entertainment, with all proceeds to go towards the Good Friday Appeal.
It will be the second time the group has held such an event for the appeal, with their last one a few years ago raising more than $8000.
It all started when Danielle Roberts decided she wanted to do something to give back the hospital that treated her son Kaden, now 8, as both an inpatient and outpatient as an infant.
Some of her friends also got on board, they too having had contact with the Royal Children’s Hospital at some point, with some still having children treated there.
“No matter what you use the hospital for, major or minor, you’re grateful that the hospital’s there to use,” Mrs Roberts said.
She said the staff of the hospital were “amazing, they’re absolutely amazing”.
“I think the majority of people who use the hospital would say the same thing,” Mrs Roberts said.
The appeal was of relevance to everyone, she said, because those who did not have firsthand experience of the hospital probably knew someone who did.
More than 45,000 children were admitted to the hospital last year and more than 90,000 were treated in emergency; a further 255,000 were treated at the hospital’s specialist clinics.
Tiffany Beard, another of the mums involved in the event, said almost $15,000 in goods and prizes had been donated by business from Bendigo and further afield for this week’s event.
She said there was a “bit of everything” on offer, from a cubby house and movie vouchers to holiday accommodation and even road base.
Mrs Beard said they hoped to beat their last event’s fundraising total, aiming for about $10,000.
The evening will kick off at the Bendigo Club from 7pm on Good Friday, with free entry and children welcome.
