Three Bendigo Pioneers players took the group of domestic and international students through a football clinic, with skill-based activities and a modified game of Aussie rules.
La Trobe international student service coordinator Badraa AL-Darkazly said the students had so much fun.
“It’s a good way to introduce football to the international students,” she said.
“But even the local students were really interested.”
The group was made up of Australian students as well as international students from places like Sri Lanka, India, Singapore and the Netherlands.
The clinic was run through the university’s Unimates program, which brings students together outside of the classroom.
Ms AL-Darkazly said the clinic was so successful they were already planning to hold another one.
Bendigo Pioneers under 16 assistant coach Travis Matheson said it was a great opportunity for the players, who were each undertaking a level one coaching course.
“It was really good for those boys to be able to get out and share their knowledge,” he said.
