V/Line spokesperson Rob Curtain said engineers were investigating an incident which occurred on Monday, where a level crossing was slow to detect a service travelling from Echuca to Melbourne.
“The boom gates at the crossing north of Bendigo were in the down position and the lights and bells were operating to alert traffic, however the warning provided was 15 seconds instead of 25 seconds,” Mr Curtain said.
“V/Line will never compromise safety, and while the investigation into Monday’s incident continues, the daily return train service between Echuca and Bendigo (Epsom) is being replaced by coaches.”
The coaches were connecting with the scheduled train services between Bendigo and Melbourne, Mr Curtain said.
No time frame has been placed on a return to the rail service.
