The society launched this year’s eisteddfod on Friday and are expecting to host and judge more than 3500 performances over May and June.
Competitions in dance, music, singing and drama are on from May 13.
Bendigo Competitions Society president and dance co-ordinator Fay Thomas said the number of dancers continues to grow.
“We have so many dance schools in Bendigo. Five major ones and others in areas around central Victoria,” she said.
“This is also the third year we have had choirs at Ulumbarra. They used to be at BSE but we needed somewhere bigger because the crowds are so big.
“Speech and drama is also a category this year. I have been president for 15 years and that hasn’t happened during my time.”
The eisteddfod has seven weeks of music competitions, four weeks of speech, singing and drama events and two weeks of dance performances.
City of Greater Bendigo councillor Matt Emond said the eisteddfod was important for performer development.
“Getting a critique back from an adjudicator is important information in your own development,” he said.
