Barbieri – who made 86 ‘A’ international appearances for the Matildas between 2002 and 2015 – visited Catholic College Bendigo, Bendigo South East College and Weeroona College this week as part of the promotion for the new girls competition for the under-7, under-9, under-11 and under-12 age groups.
“The Bendigo Amateur Soccer League is excited to bring this opportunity to local girls that has previously not been available,” BASL competition co-ordinator Rebecca Fahey said this week.
“An all-girls competition gives young girls the chance to play with friends and develop their confidence and skills in a fun, supportive environment.”
Meanwhile, BASL will hold a school holiday program next month with support from Bendigo City FC.
The program, for ages 5 to 16, will be held from Monday, April 10, to Thursday, April 13, at the Girton Grammar junior campus.
The program is based on ball mastery, skill work and technique, with the goal to identify areas of improvement in each player.
Cost is $50 a day or $150 for the four days.
