Opportunistic thieves are targeting items left in utility vehicles, Bendigo police have warned.
Leading Senior Constable Andrew Pritchard urged people to lock their vehicles and either secure or remove any valuables following a series of thefts in Golden Square during the long weekend.
He said two men in their 20s were arrested and charged with multiple counts of theft from a motor vehicle after a report of suspicious activity during the early hours of Sunday morning.
They will face court in April.
Police have recovered a number of items, including golf clubs, taken from three vehicles in the vicinity of Rowan Street, Booth Street and Becker Close.
Leading Senior Constable Pritchard said there was evidence to suggest thieves had scoped out several other vehicles.
“Members of the community should ensure vehicles are not only locked, but any loose items are secured appropriately,” he said.
