Musician and performer Dr Lou Bennett has been inducted onto the Victorian Honour Roll of Women.
The Yorta Yorta woman and Malmsbury resident was among 25 women this year added to the honour roll.
Dr Bennett is a co-founder of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander performing arts company the Black Arm Band.
She was awarded a Doctor of Philosophy for her work exploring the importance of Aboriginal languages for the arts community.
Minister for Women Fiona Richardson said she was delighted Dr Bennett had been inducted into the Victorian Honour Roll of Women.
“She is a wonderful performer and her work is so important to the whole community,” she said.
More than 600 women have been named in the roll since it started in 2001.
Television presenter Carrie Bickmore, disability activist Stella Young and football coach Peta Searle are among those inducted to the list this year.
