UPDATE, TUESDAY, 11am: Frontier Touring is urging people still searching for tickets to Midnight Oil to not buy potentially fake tickets from so called “reseller” websites.
In a statement, the touring company said the first tickets for the tour will be printed and mailed in August meaning any online scalpers claiming to have tickets are misleading fans.
“Such unofficial ticketing companies may currently be legal and thus beyond the band’s control but they typically charge grossly inflated prices and the band does not profit from, nor support, their re-sale activities,” a statement said.
“Fans are formally advised to only buy tickets via the official outlets listed on www.midnightoil.com/tour-dates and www.frontiertouring.com/midnightoil and to keep an eye out for more official ticket releases over the months ahead.”
When tickets went on sale on Monday more than 200,000 tickets were sold and 25 shows sold out including 14 North American shows.
Midnight Oil’s Hanging Rock in November sold out within minutes of going on sale. Australian shows in Kuranda, Brisbane, Hunter Valley, Sydney, Melbourne, Canberra and Wollongong also sold out.
Extra shows are expected to be announced for Sydney and Melbourne in the next two days.
Frontier Touring also revealed that some tickets were deliberately withheld for each of the currently sold out Australian dates.
They will be be released later this year as part of wide ranging efforts to frustrate scalpers.

MONDAY, 4.45pm: TICKETS to Midnight Oil’s upcoming show at Hanging Rock appear to have sold out within minutes of going on sale.
The sale opened at 2pm on Monday and tickets were snapped up quickly.
One fan said on social media that they had been online at the time tickets went on sale, but were told they had sold out straight away.
Others questioned whether there was a problem with the website, given how quickly they sold out.
But ticket agent Ticketmaster assured fans that it was due to the popularity of the event.
Tickets made available in the presale also sold out in short time.
Tickets started at $99 and went up to $152.69.
The iconic Australian band will play at Hanging Rock on Saturday, November 4, along with Something For Kate and the John Butler Trio, as part of a world tour.
