Students from the college teamed up to cook-off against Bendigo councillor Rod Fyffe and Bendigo Toyota’s Gabe Richards.
The competition helped launch Bendigo Food Share’s Million Meals in March campaign.
Bendigo Food Share chairwoman Cathie Steele said it was a fun way to generate interest for the campaign.
“We are trying to generate interest in the community and have fun as well,” she said.
“You can get food to those in need but have fun at the same time and the community grows because we are doing it together.”
Ms Steele said Bendigo Food Share aims to get two million meals out each year.
“We help about 14,000 people each week and if communities in central Victoria get behind it, people can get the help they need,” she said.
“In Bendigo, one in 11 people have trouble getting regular food but in poorer areas it is one in nine people who need help.

“If a drought or flood hits a community, we can give support where it’s needed and when it’s needed.”
Ms Steele said have schools like Weeroona College teaching kids how to cook and handle food was important.
“By giving food through a school program, teachers can use that food to teach student’s how to cook. That is a skill for life,” she said.
Cr Fyffe and Ms Richards were bested by students Katie Roberts and Conner Murphy. Katie and Conner put together a pasta dish and fruit salad along side Cr Fyffe and Ms Richard’s pasta and fish stir fry.
“The competition was something from left field. It’s amazing what you can do in 30 minutes with a few ingredients, a bit of imagination and a willingness to experiment,” Cr Fyffe said.
“You can make some delicious, wholesome meals. To get those million meals out is phenomenal. I really applaud what Bendigo Food Share do.”
