The Magpies defeated the Western Bulldogs by seven points in Saturday night's round four game at the Whitten Oval.
They won 5.2 (32) to 3.7 (25).
The win was soured by a potentially serious knee injury to Collingwood rookie Kate Sheahan, the daughter of veteran football journalist Mike.
Grant ended the match with three kicks and a tackle.
The win lifted the Magpies (1-3) above winless Fremantle and Greater Western Sydney on the ladder.
Meanwhile, Carlton slipped to fourth place after a six point loss to third-placed Melbourne.
The Blues lost 6.6 (42) to 5.6 (36).
Bendigo's Bella Ayre was instrumental in the Blues clawing back a 19-point three-quarter time deficit by kicking two goals early in the final quarter.
But the Demons were able to regain composure, with a goal to Richelle Cranston sealing a nail-biting win for the Demons.
Ayre produced her best game for the season to finish with four kicks, one handball, two marks and two goals.
Former Thunder teammate Jess Kennedy had four kicks, two handballs and two marks.
Adelaide Crows and Brisbane Lions (both 4-0) head the league ladder.
