A young Bendigo side was beaten 3-nil against Sunshine George Cross at Chaplin Reserve to remain the only team without a point in 10th place.
Eight-placed Melbourne Victory and ninth-placed Werribee City FC are the only other teams without a win this season. Both sides have have two wins and two draws.
Despite the three-goal margin, Bendigo City FC coach Srecko Baresic said his side had played some of its best football this season, arguably better than its 1-nil loss the previous week to Moreland City FC.
"Moreland City and Sunshine George Cross are two pretty similar teams," he said.
"Two of Sunshine George Cross' goals came from individual errors and the other one came while we tried to chase a result in the last 10 minutes.
“But I can see the improvement building every week within this team.”
Baresic praised the effort of goalkeeper Donte Thomas, who has stepped up in the absence of regular keeper Rob Munday, who remains on the injured list.
The youngster again held his nerve under pressure to be one of Bendigo City FC's best players.
"He pulled three of four good saves, but we just couldn't convert," Baresic said.
"He's young and talented and he's shown really great skills these last four games.
"I think eventually he will have a big future if he continues to work hard.
"Sometimes a player just gets an opportunity and takes it on, and with our captain Rob Munday injured, he has stepped up beautifully."
Defenders Lachlan Beever and Samuel Mangelsdorf and midfielder Sam Farr, who slotted into a starting role this week, were others to show out for Bendigo City FC.
Tedros Yabio scored twice for Sunshine George Cross in the 44th and 90th minutes.
Bendigo City host Richmond SC at Epsom Huntly Recreation Reserve this Saturday at 5pm.
